PAPYRUS and the University of Central Lancashire

have begun a three year research project funded by a grant from the Community Fund (now known as the Big Lottery Fund). It will be known as the RaPSS Project which stands for Responses and Prevention in Student Suicide.

The project began in May 2004 and will investigate the risk factors involved in the suicides of students together with examples of good practice in responding to suicidal behaviour. Further details and ongoing information can be found on the research site at www.rapss.org.uk.

If you have any information that may assist us, and you would like to share with the team, or if you would like to be placed on the project mailing list, send us an email to research@papyrus-uk.org.

PAPYRUS has produced two studies in conjunction with the University of Hull.

Making Use of Hindsight (2000) reported the results of a questionnaire sent to members of PAPYRUS who were bereaved by suicide. Their views provide a unique insight into suicide prevention and the impact of suicide on families.

Concern and Confidentiality (2004) - a study which explored how GPs would manage the difficult task of responding both to a distressed young person who might be at risk of suicide and their parents.
